IP Address (Internet Protocol Address)

Internet Protocol (IP) is a set of rules that governs the format of data sent over the Internet or any other network. It provides the technical basis for communication on the internet. IP addresses are unique numerical labels assigned to each device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. These addresses serve two main purposes: host or network interface identification and location addressing.

There are two main versions of IP in use today: IPv4 and IPv6. IPv4 addresses are 32-bit numerical identifiers, typically expressed in decimal format, separated by periods (e.g., 192.0.2.1). IPv6, on the other hand, uses 128-bit addresses represented in hexadecimal format, separated by colons (e.g., 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334).

IP facilitates the delivery of packets of data from the source device to the destination device across networks, regardless of the underlying physical infrastructure. It is a fundamental protocol in the Internet Protocol Suite, which also includes other protocols like Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP), and Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), among others. These protocols work together to enable communication and data exchange over the internet
